Free-range is a USDA label which means the birds have access to the outdoors – they aren’t raised completely in cages. There is no mandate to make the birds go outside.
Free-range implies birds on range or pasture, but pasture or outdoors is neither required nor enforced. It’s a fundamental deceit in many commercial poultry brands of free-range organic chicken, turkey, or eggs.
Is Pastured Poultry More Nutritious?
It’s delicious and nutritious.
Studies of pastured poultry by interested groups and universities have found that chicken and eggs raised on pasture are more nutritious in terms of a lower omega 6:3 ratio and increased levels of vitamins A (eggs), D, and E.
